Dear Somerset Families,
We have always had the safety policies that include requiring parents to enter the parking lot and go through car line in the afternoons. We have always stated that parking on the swales and road to pick up your students was unsafe and prohibited. In years past, we have been small enough that we’ve been able to address it within individual families. Last year and this year , parent defiance has gotten out of control. Every year we put out communication indicating how unsafe this is and beg parents to follow the rules. Every year I do an orientation where I cover this. It’s in the handbook. Every single family who applies for their student to attend Somerset signs a contract stating that they have read the handbook and that they understand the school rules and agree to comply with the rules. Every contract and the handbook indicate that noncompliance with school policies can result in student dismissal.
Going forward, noncompliance will result in one warning and subsequent dismissal.
Afternoon Carline takes approximately 20 minutes if everyone follows the rules and does what is asked.

Process for afternoon Carline:
Enter the parking lot from the Peacock entrance and turn right into the parking lot. Enter one of the two parent lanes and follow it around to where the two lanes become three.
Pick a lane. Stay in that lane. Solid lines on the ground indicate that the driver should not cross those lines or change lanes. Broken lines on the ground indicate that a driver may change lanes.
Please note that the lines on the ground in the parent pick up lanes are solid.
If you are in the lane that is closest to the building, expect to be directed to the right and to exit onto California. If you are in the far left lane, the furthest from the building, expect to be directed to the left to exit out on two Peacock. if you are in the center lane, you could be directed in either direction.
There is a roundabout at California and Torino, California and Peacock, and Peacock and Cashmere. If you do not like the direction that you are going, please drive to the roundabout and around it to go in the opposite direction.
To summarize:
1. Enter the parking lot and enter the car line to pick up your children.
2. ⁠ Do not park in a parking spot and expect your child to walk through the parking lot to get into your car.
3. ⁠ Do not park on the street or swales and expect your student to walk to your car
4. ⁠ Understand that if you choose to violate any of these rules, after one warning, you will receive withdrawal paperwork.
